A customer has an event in six weeks and nothing to wear. She has seen that the boutique offers personal styling, and she has not booked because she imagines an hour of being looked at by somebody thinner than her while being handed things she cannot afford.
That is the actual barrier, and no amount of describing the service addresses it.
Say plainly that there is no obligation
The single most important sentence. Customers assume a styling appointment ends in a purchase and will not book because of it. Stating otherwise is what fills the diary.
Example conversations
These scripts use information a boutique might publish. Your answers should come from your own pages.
Customer: What actually happens at a styling appointment? Assistant: The page explains that it starts with a conversation about the occasion and what you feel comfortable in, that a selection is pulled before you arrive, and that you have the fitting room and the stylist's time privately. There is no obligation to buy anything. Could you tell me the occasion and the date so a session can be arranged?
Customer: Is there a charge? Assistant: The page explains the position, including whether a fee applies and whether it is credited against anything you buy. It also explains how long a session lasts and whether refreshments are provided.
Customer: Can I bring someone with me? Assistant: The page explains that you are welcome to bring somebody, and how many the space comfortably takes. Could you let me know how many of you and a couple of dates that would work?
Explain what the stylist prepares
That a selection is pulled in advance based on the conversation, so the hour is spent trying rather than searching. Customers do not know this happens and it is the whole value.
Capture the brief before the appointment
Occasion, date, what they like, what they never wear, sizes, budget and anything they are self-conscious about. Asked gently, in advance, it transforms the session.
Publish the budget question carefully
Asking about budget in advance, and saying plainly that nothing will be pulled above it, is what reassures a customer who fears being shown things she cannot afford.
Say who they will see
A named stylist, with something about their experience. Customers are letting somebody see them undressed and want to know who.
Explain the privacy arrangement
Whether the shop is closed, whether it is a private room, whether other customers are present. This matters enormously for the customers most likely to benefit.
Offer it outside opening hours
An evening session, or before the shop opens, is more private and more special, and it uses hours that produce nothing.
Publish the duration
An hour, ninety minutes. Customers fitting it around work need to know, and a vague appointment is harder to commit to.
Follow up properly afterwards
What was tried, what can be held, and whether anything can be ordered in another size. The sale often happens two days later.
Sizing and stock questions arrive first
They are covered in stock and restock questions boutique shoppers send.
Appointment capture is the same discipline everywhere
It appears in interpreting bookings for events and appointments and an AI receptionist for beauty salons.
